Al and Steph Connecticut Couple Studio Portraits

In Connecticut, we are surrounded by beautiful spaces: warm beaches, serene woods, cozy backyard fire pits, our favorite bars and cafes. It has become common to ensure we snap a few pics of ourselves in our favorite spaces, even if it’s just a quick selfie. What we love about those pictures is the connection between the emotion of the image (happy, joy, comfort) and the vibe of the space (bright, cozy, homey). What happens when you take portraits in a plain studio space?

You are the subject

There is nothing to hide behind. You are on full display. While incredibly intimidating, it's about as human as we can get with photography. Every part of the photo speaks. Eyes, smile, head tilt…everything. The viewer can get to know you deeply, connect with you emotionally. That is the power of a studio portrait.

Bring a friend!

All the more exciting is a portrait with your partner. Now you, them, and the love you share are the subjects of the image. A whole story unfolds, shot in still life but bursting off the page. There is so much emotion with a partner. You get a place to rest your hand, the comfort of doing something a little scary. Best part is cataloguing this period of your relationship. Love matures and changes. Some relationships end, others flourish. Either way, anyone knows that love looks different over the years. Being able to look back at glimpses in time through portraits is such an asset to any relationship.
